The artists I researched represented renaissance ideas because their paintings transcended the normal expectations for art. "The creation of beauty is art", and the Renaissance painters ultimately understood that their task was to improve the human condition by inspiring and creating art that benefited the community. El Greco used mannerism to develop emotion in religious depictions of the depotism of Christ. Mary and Mary's faces were blue, not to exaggerate their skin tone, but to convey the somber tone of the occasion. "The Wool Factory" showed detailed human muscle concentration, a theory from early Greek classical civilization, and "The Depotism of Christ" showed genuine sympathy for Jesus and his experience. "Pieta" by El Greco showed Jesus after he had come down from the cross. Throughout the Middle Ages, depictions of Christ were over glorified...not keeping with the Christian idea that he was fully human AND fully God. As the European world transitioned into the Reformation, art would greatly effect the expressions church leaders made about the Trinity and Salvation.
The paintings which I researched depict renaissance ideas because they each convey the importance of religion during that time as well as the patrons that supported the artists. In Verrichio's "The Baptism of Christ", Verrichio puts the extended arms of God, golden rays and a dove with outstretched wings to represent Jesus is the Son of God and is a part of the holy Trinity in Christianity. The portrail of "The Desposition of Christ" can be found to be portrayed by numerous different artists, conveying the importance of the story of Jesus's crucifixion during the Renaissance. Those related to religion, such as Mary Magdeline and Jesus's mother Mary, are also depicted through art. In Parmigianino's "Madonna with the Long Neck", Parmigiannino depicts Mary, St. Jerome, angels, as well as Jesus. Also in this painting, one will notice that the images are unportional.
The artists that I researched represent renaissance ideas because their art represented the ideals and morals of the time. They painted to inspire, not simply as a hobby or for a job. Their work was regarded as some of history's finest, because it simply goes to lengths that no other manner or form of art could think of going or depicting. As an example, Da Vinci was an mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer. He was exceptional at all of these professions, and was the human realization and archetype of the renaissance. He sought enlightenment within his paintings and works, and due to this concept they tended to transcend common art.Today, his iconic works " The Mona Lisa","The Last Supper", and "The Vitruvian Man", showed great detail, original facial structure and emotion, and the concept of chairoscuro( the contrast between dark and light), and are still considered some of the most influential and exceptional works in the history of art.
The artists I was assigned to used different mediums.Bruegel and Francesca both used oil paints while Fiarentino used different mediums like metalwork and stucco. But all the artists used Greek and Roman styles to convey the meanings behind their work. the "Trumiph of Death" focused more on religion while the "Ideal City" was more about the architecture of the Greeks and Romans.Fontainbleau's interior had bright colors with mythological landscapes. The "Triumph of Death" was gloomy and had a pessimistic outlook on life and death while the others left a sense of hope and beauty to life. All the painting conveyed religion and mythological symbols while using Greek and Roman styles.
The artists I was assigned to research on all emphasized Renaissance ideals with the techniques they used but also in the stories behind the piece of work. Such as the artist Lorenzo Ghiberti illustrarted different stories from the bible that took place throughout his work which emphsized on the religion during the period. Giorgione emphasized on landscapes which added perception to his paintings because he looked closer than someone else who painting or designing that has a story. Durer was also like Ghiberti and told a story along with his woodcut that emphasized on the peroid and the religious attributions of the day. All of which had their own unique talent that added emphasis on the time frame they were illustrated.
The artists I researched represented renaissance ideas because of their technique and what they painted. Michelangelo went into great detail to make his works seem real. Many of the other artists painted things that were hard to believe because they didn't seem as real as others. Many artist used the same idea such as the Lords Supper and created their own version of what they thought it was like. Michelangelos David was very masculine. He went into great detail to show his perspective of David. David almost looks real because of how he is built and how realistic it looks.
The artists that I researched represented Renaissance ideas and commonalities in different ways. For example, the painting of "The Cure of the Folly" was a satire of the Flemish custom of wearing amulets made out of books and scriptures. The inscription reads, "Master, cut away the stone - my name is Lubbert Das." Lubbert Das was a comical figure of Dutch literature. During the time of the Renaissance, many political and social events were portrayed through art. This painting reflected the satire of the time and was also a piece of art that served the purpose that a political cartoon would serve now.
The artists that I researched represented Renaissance because of the stories or ideas that they depicted. The first painting "Duress and Dutches" showed the power that a man and a woman had but showed them as equals. This reflected the social life of the Renaissance. "The Four Horseman of the Apocolypse" are traditionally named after the powers they represent: conquest, war, famine, and death. These were issues that surrounded Europeans during the Renaissance and that is what most art was based off of. "The Last Supper" by Tintoretto, like most art during the Renaissance, portrayed a biblical theme and tale but in a different perspective. It added drama rather than the traditional values of the scene which was a common technique of Renaissance art due to the influence of humanist ideas.
My atrists that i researched each represented the ideals of the renaissance time period because they all pushed for that something extra. This time period was about moving forward to bigger and better things as well as making the things you already had better. El Greco used elongated figures and unusual colors to stand out from the crowd and make his art unique. Rapheal always tried to show women in the softest lights as well as other methods he used from Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Donatello. Both of these artists in there own ways showed the ideals of the renaissance but cumulitively changed the way art was viewed forever.
The Mystic Marriage of St. Catherine by: Parmigianino
The artist Prmigianino followed many of the traditional styles of painting during the renaissance. His painting of St. Catherine is very life like. He focuses on the intricacies of the people and clothes depicted and also puts the main focus of the painting at the center, with everything else geometrically facing the center. The uses of color also relates the painting of St. Catherine to the renaissance time period, Parmigianino uses light and dark to show important, minor, or specific details of importance in the painting.
The paintings I researched represented the renaissance throught the images that were part of each one. The Dreyfus was by Leonardo da Vince and it showed a mother who some know to be the virgin Mary and her son. Joseph in Eygpt by Jacopo Pontormo has bibilcal figures in the painting that tells stories from the bible. The paintings represent how important religion was during the renaissance. The Ambassadors by Holbeins had two very well dress men and important tools of the time that had been just invented. This painting showed the interest of dress for the times and the new technolgies for the times. All three artist that I looked up painted what they saw and what they were taught during the times of the renaissance.
The artists i researched represented renaissance ideas because the painters were painting to inspire and for the better of the people. Da Vinci for example was a man of many professions. Besides being a painter, he was also a mathematician, inventor, and many other things. Another renaissance painter, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, was a very unique man. He didn't have a lot of talents like Da Vinci, but he was very original. His style was unique and the renaissance was all about originality. Bruegel's paintings were very odd and unrealistic, much different from a lot of the religious artwork during the time of the renaissance.
The artist I researched represented renaissance ideas through the many paintings and their impact or significance during that time. Raphael was known as the genius of high Renissance painters and was the greatest designer of the Renaissance. He put realistic emotions on to paintings and changed the way people looked at art due to his detailed portraits. During his 37 years, he was a successful artist and from studying the work of Leonardo, Michelangelo and Fra Bart Domneo, he was able to influence painters up to the 1900's and change the art world.
The Reniassance artists I researched represented Reniassance ideas in that they displayed realism an other perspectives of that time. Two of my paintings were of nude people. This portrayed the detail and realism of the time. These artists made these paintings look extremely real and focused on every detail of the curves of the human body.
I also had a painting with Jesus as themain subject. He dominasted the scene and this revealed the importance of religion at the time. Christianity was an extremely crucial part of the Reniassance. The fine details of Jesus showed the realistic detail and the emotion. This painting was very solemn and serene. Jesus had almost no expressio on his face, but it conveyed so much emotion to the onlooker. That i show Reniassance art focused on detail, the emotion attatched with the painting, not simply just the surface level. That made this art interesting.
The artists of the Renaissance that I researched represented Reniassance ideas in many ways. For example, they employed realism, a very popular type of artistry of this time, and other perspectives of the time, such as the use of different perspectives and trying to mock the human body. One of my paintings showed a lot of the human body, which emphasized the importance of making things seem real in this time as well as the details involved in the paintings. These artists focused on making my paintings look real and focused a lot on the human body.
One of my paintings also was described a a "commissioned piece of art", which was a very popular occurance of this time. "The Rape of Helen", one of my paintings, was commissioned to show the brutality of the Persians and their tendency toward heathenistic behavior. My Renaissance artists were expert examples of typic artists of this time.
The artists i researced represented renaissance ideas because of their new styles of architecture and painting. Brunelleschi was a painter turned architect. He spent many years building domes that had never been seen, especially before his time. he came up with new techniques that would allow domes to be constructed in new forms and be more sturdy. The other artist was Matthias Grunwald. This artist was able to capture a style of mis-evil art and combine with newer style from the renaissance. The brighter contrast between colors was a new style while he also brought back the style of disproportional figures to display importance. These are just a couple of the artists and a few of their examples which greatly impacted renaissance art and life.
